Major Production: Analysing Of Mice and Men the film (1993)

Recently I watched the film adaptation of Of Mice and Men to observe the style, narrative and character personalities.

Style - It is filmed in third person, which has stayed true to the book as the book is also read in a third person perspective. Sinise throughout the film has used almost a contradictory style in the colouring and lighting of the production. I noticed that whenever the storytelling became tense or upsetting it would be bright and sunny outside and when everything would be calm and relaxed - like when George is discussing the American Dream with Lennie it would be dark and dingy. It moves at a very slow pace - but then again so does the book.

Narrative - The narrative of the story is very faithful of that to the book. If you had read the book without seeing the film, it is how you would have imagined the characters to look, act and speak. The only difference in the film is that the book ignores chapter 4 where Lennie hallucinates about his Aunt Clara and a giant rabbit - maybe the story writers thought it wouldn't fit with the serious tone of the movie.

Character Personalities - Like I have already said the characters are loyal to the books.
Lennie has mental disabilities but is very loving and caring, but doesn't know his own strength. He has a fierce love of animals and is very distraught when he accidentally hurts them by "petting them too hard". He's very fond of George and only really understands him. Very misunderstood.
George has a short fuse but clearly cares for Lennie very much. He clearly gets annoyed by his stupidity and his inability to understand simple things, almost blames him for the life that they live which  is travelling around looking for jobs, not really having a purpose. He also works extremely hard.
