Commission Unit: Practise

For this unit we have been asked to make a good example of a 10 minute documentary in groups of 2 or 3. To practise for this brief we went out in to Maidstone to ask independent businesses why they would choose Maidstone as the place they came. This Sunday me and Zarah went to film at a shop under the market buildings in Maidstone. We decided to interview them because their shop had a comfortable atmosphere about it, and it had also been in the same location for over 20 years. We went and firstly got the owner of the shop to sign consent forms, then started filming cut-away's of different quirky products in the shop such as incense, birth stones and body jewellery. As soon as the owner was free we interviewed him with a back-drop of jewellery and gifts. We asked him questions such as "what's your most popular product?" and "would you recommend this location to any other business thinking of starting up in Maidstone?". After filming and exporting the footage I realise there is a lot of things I would have done differently. I would have used a tripod for some of the cutaways, and used a radio mike instead of the internal mike in the interview, and the background music in the shop made the shot really hard to cut.
