For the second semester of the first year we have been given a new unit which is the DIRECTION UNIT. The brief consists of making a 3 minute film with a certain theme and prop, and a few ground rules. The rules include - no more than than twenty words of dialogue, only two characters which have to be a boy and a girl, the film has to be shot in Vinters park and that if music is used it has to be your own. The 3 minute film that we have been asked to make will be part of a 19 part series which the rest of my group will be involved in.
The theme I chose out of the hat was - Win.
My prop that I chose out of the hat was - Postcard.
Having a little think about how I could use the brief with my theme and prop I thought maybe mine could be a thriller. My first initial idea was that a girl of about 19, 20 walks in to the park and sees a postcard on the floor, which catches her attention. Then the postcard will give the girl a challenge of finding all of the postcards scattered around the nature reserve, because the other character (the boy of around 20 in the story) has been given the challenge of killing the other main girl character if he wants to save his family. This is my first idea on the drawing board and it may not work, but I feel like the prop is one of the key parts of the story, as is the theme of winning because whoever escapes the challenge will win their life. I think I need to figure out a way that the postcard can play a bigger role in the story, but other than that it seems do-able.
