Major Project: Character Profiles

Thursday our main focus for myself & Zarah's Final Major Project was mainly characters. As I am directing and she is producing, it is me that will be in charge of finding characters to play the roles and casting. I also have a vision of how the character should be portrayed and how they should look. Obviously our main characters in our short would be George and Lenny, but in our adaptation the characters will be called George and Leo instead of Lennie, to make it seem more updated and Leonardo is a very similar name to Leonard.

Leo - Obviously mentally challenged in a way he doesn't really understand others, but we have decided to make him not so obviously mentally challenged to the fellow characters but make it obvious to the audience when the brothers are alone. We want him to come off as very loving towards George but scared of people he isn't familiar with. Appearance wise - which is down to me as I'm casting all actors - I see Leo as extremely tall with a large build, blonde hair and large eyes with a bit of stoop. After looking through CCP to figure out what I was looking for, I found someone looks-wise I would consider to play Leo.

George - George should be extremely bright and very loyal. Even though he loves Leo, he can have moments of weakness and will get angry at Leo for the living situation they are in. He has a temper if the right person can bring it out. Appearance wise I think George should be quite typically handsome but with a bit of rough around the edges - in the way that if he looked after himself he would be a very good looking guy, but as he has too much to worry about appearance is the last thing on his mind or agenda. He should be a lot smaller than Leo, around 5.7 - 5.10 with darker blonde/brown hair. I have also looked CCP for people I would consider to play George and have found someone that I may have considered for the role of George.
