Today I filmed my charity promotion video for the WHF. To make sure filming went well as it possibly could I printed out 3 versions of the script for the keepers to look over, charged all of the equipment and got familiar with the new cameras we've been given (which are so much better than the old ones!). I made my way to Smarden and met with the head of advertising and promotions who I had recently been e-mailing - Tanith Brown. I sat down with her for about 40 minutes and we both spoke about what she wanted to see and how she wanted the video to come across. She looked over the script and made a few changes, and by then we were ready to film.
We started filming the feeding of the cats which was incredible and I had managed to shoot some amazing footage. We walked around the sanctuary trying to get nice shots without the cage bars in if possible, of the cats playing with each other, feeding, playing with toys and just being generally happy in their enclosures. After we got enough shots of the cats we went for lunch and while we were having lunch I put the battery on charge and checked the footage I had already got so that if I needed any more shots of the cats I could ask and go back if necessary.
I was very happy with the footage I had managed to get, and so continued to then talking with the keepers about the sanctuary - well the head keeper Becci who was very knowledgeable about the enclosures and the different breeds of cats. We went inside a Serval cat cage while she spoke about what the sanctuary did and why they are there. After that she spoke about snow leopards and how there are only 30 left in the wild but have managed to breed in captivity, which is incredible.
It was such an amazing experience and after today I think I would really be happy if I ended up being a wildlife photographer/camera assistant.
