Fiction Adaptation - Minor Changes to the Script

This is my final draft of my fiction adaptation script.

INT. BATHROOM - DAY

An average looking, YOUNG man is staring at himself in the mirror in the BATHROOM of the HALLS OF RESIDENCE for a UNIVERSITY, whilst narration indicates this this is what he is THINKING.

OVER THE SHOULDER - IN MIRROR

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

I'm not mad. I'm not mad. Listen, I can tell you the whole thing straight.. Why did I do it? It was that tattoo.

We see a close up of the tattoo on the VICTIMS face, and then the insane man waving at the man with the tattoo as he walks into the FLAT, like everything is fine. VOICE OVER continues.

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

I loved the guy. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult.... It was what that tattoo, DID to me. I closed my eyes and it was there.

We see the INSANE MAN still STARING at himself in the mirror, and splashing his face, he then continues to STARE at himself. VOICE OVER continues.

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

I needed to do something about it. And then, it hit me. This thought. I needed to get rid of him and that tattoo, forever. I know! He leaves his door unlocked.. No, I couldn't possibly.

We see ANOTHER CLOSE UP of the TATTOO in INSANE MANS vision.. And he SHAKES HIS HEAD VIGOROUSLY.

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

That tattoo needs to go.

We cut to characters POV CAUTIOUSLY walking down the corridor towards the victims room. Which keeps flashing back to the insane man in the mirror.

INSANE MAN

I would go into his room, and act like nothing is wrong. And then BOOM. When he least expects it. Him and that tattoo will be a thing of the past.

The INSANE MAN shakes his head, and continues to STARE into the mirror.

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

No, that would be too obvious, there are people living right next to us! Ok, ok.. He always goes for a walk in the park in the week at lunch. He won't even hear me coming because he is always lost in his music! Of course. That is what I'll do.

He LOOKS up a the mirror and smiles.

SCREEN FADES TO BLACK.

EXT. PARK - DAY

We see the INSANE MAN hiding behind a tree in the park his back against it PANTING/PANICKING. The VICTIM is sat nearby on a bench with HEADPHONES on.

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

There he is. I refrained and kept still. I scarcely breathed. I know I'm meant to do it, there is no one around and he is off his guard.

Suddenly the VICTIMS phone starts BUZZING/VIBRATING on the park bench next to him. It is CONTINUOUS..

INSANE MAN

(VOICE OVER)

Why is he letting it make that god AWFUL sound?

BUZZING gets LOUDER and LOUDER in INSANE MANS head and then eventually VICTIM answers.

VICTIM

(on phone)

Hello? Yeah.. Just in the park... (continues phone conversation.)

INSANE MAN

Thank god. Now back to the plan - so when gets up and leaves the bench, I'll follow him.. And then I will be rid of that tattoo forever!

VICTIM SLOWLY gets up, still on the phone. We see INSANE MAN with his back against the tree, looking PANICKED. The VICTIM carries on walking up the PATH. We see INSANE MAN put up his hood and CAUTIOUSLY walk out from behind the tree and begins to follow THE VICTIM. INSANE MAN CAUTIOUSLY follows the victim until they come across bushes/trees. Then INSANE MAN grabs THE VICTIM, and he SHRIEKS. INSANE MAN then SHOVES his hand over THE VICTIMS mouth and we see THE VICTIM struggle while INSANE MAN continues to drag him into the bushes. We see THE VICTIM DRAGGED to the floor by INSANE MAN and then we have a CLOSE UP of THE VICTIMS feet KICKING and STRUGGLING. Eventually, THE VICTIM stops STRUGGLING and his feet go LIMP. Then we see a CLOSE - UP of the TATTOO. INSANE MAN DRAGS the body into a more concealed place and spots THE VICTIMS PHONE on the floor in front of him. INSANE MAN PICKS UP THE PHONE and puts it in his pocket. He begins to SLOWLY TRUDGE towards the footpath.

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

I placed my hand upon the heart and held it there many minutes.FINALLY. I am rid of that godforsaken TATTOO.

INSANE MAN turns around SLOWLY to look at his ACHIEVEMENT and then TURNS AROUND and carries on walking. Two PEOPLE approach INSANE MAN down the footpath.

PASSERBY 1

We heard a someone scream, is everything ok????

INSANE MAN stops and SMILES at the passerby's, Voice over/Narration Continues.

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

The deed was done. I had no reason to lie. Everything was fine.

INSANE MAN

Sure, I just fell that's all, being dramatic. So where are you guys off to? Such a lovely evening isn't it!?

THE VICTIMS phone begins to buzz in INSANE MANS POCKET. He takes it out CAUTIOUSLY and it reads - THE DEAD MAN. INSANE MAN shakes his head and continues to act NORMAL in front of the passerby's.

PASSERBY 1



We're here for the weekend actually, its lovely around here.. (continues talking)

The phone continues to BUZZ. Similar to the sound of a HEARTBEAT. It gets LOUDER and LOUDER in INSANE MANS HEAD. INSANE MAN begins to SHAKE his head to rid of the VIBRATING.

INSANE MAN

Yeah, yeah its nice here.. Can you hear that??

PASSERBY 1

...Hear what?

INSANE MAN

Nothing, nothing, just keep hearing a buzzing noise. Probably a bee, or something.

PASSERBY 2

Yeah we've been here for a few hours now, do you have any suggestions of what is good around here? (continues talking)

INSANE MAN

(voice over)

WHAT IS THAT WRETCHED BUZZING NOISE?

INSANE MAN GRABS the phone from his pocket and STARES at the name once more. The VIBRATING becomes more and more VIOLENT. INSANE man shakes his head VIGOROUSLY and finally CRACKS.

INSANE MAN

OK, I DID IT OKAY?? HE'S IN THE BUSHES JUST STOP THAT HORRIBLE BUZZING! I JUST COULDN'T STAND THAT TATTOO ANY LONGER!

INSANE MAN FALLS to the FLOOR and holds his EARS, then THROWS THE PHONE on the GRASS. We see a close up of the PHONE as it still RINGS and then FADES to black.
