Fiction Adaptation - Essay Research

For my essay segment of this unit we were given three questions to choose from and the question I chose is this:
"Discuss the view that "with a successful adaptation, the original work is transformed into something new and different, although retaining many traces of what it was formerly" with reference to at least one text adapted for broadcast on television."
I chose this question because the example I have chosen to use is a very successful adaptation. The example I have chosen to use for my essay is the popular crime drama Dexter. Dexter has been adapted from 6 books and currently has 7 series - and has been extremely popular from when it began. There have been a fair few changes to that of the book, but they work.
