Story-Telling Unit - "Spaced" - The Synopsis

Stumbling upon each other in a local cafe, two of the main characters “Tim” and “Daisy” which are both in their mid-twenties find themselves in the same rut. Daisy’s situation being that she wants to move out of her current flat full of what you would call “wasters”, whilst Tim is experiencing a nasty break-up from his ex-girlfriend Sarah, which results to both of the characters being homeless. Finding an instant connection, they discover they have a lot in common, so they decide to try and help each other in finding a house/flat. After searching through many magazines, papers and advertisements they find the perfect flat, but there was one problem, the flat is advertised for “professional couples only”.  Being as desperate as they were to move on in life, Daisy suggests they could pretend to be a “professional couple” because the flat they found was in their price range and suited their needs.
Once they’ve discovered everything they need to know about each other, such as Tim’s ambition to be a professional comic book artist and Daisy’s ambition to be a professional journalist, they decide to go ahead inquire about the flat. Meeting the landlord who is Marsha, a lady in her mid fifties who is loud, drinks and smokes too much, Tim and Daisy are interviewed for the reservation.  The interview begins and as you can imagine it is rather awkward. Marsha asks questions such as “how long have you been together” and “what is your professional background”, and unexpectedly for Tim and Daisy, Marsha accepts their offer and gives them their house keys.
During their first night at their new flat, they meet their neighbour who is called Brian who you would call “unique” or just strange, knocks on Tim and Daisy’s door and invites his self in (he is also naked). The characters (including Marsha) begin to bond over a bottle of wine and a lot of cigarettes. That is the scene where we meet and get to know the main characters, except for Mike who is Tim’s best friend and is obsessed with the military.
Spaced is a half an hour series and would be put in the situation comedy genre, but it is a bit more complex that just that. With its distinct characters, surreal storylines and plenty of pop culture references (such as Reservoir Dogs and Star Wars) “Spaced” is in a world of its own.

  1. this is a good attempt. you have most of the story and character details, what it lacks is flow. too much time on the plot at the moment. you want to get into describing what spaced is like, what the feel is - the synopsis should 'sell' the idea, with all elements flowing together. good attempt though.
